The TWO Super Powerful Secrets You MUST KNOW to
Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook

The Only Course You’ll Ever Need to Master Audience Engagement on Social Media

If you’re a business professional and you’re responsible for a Twitter or Facebook account, you’re facing a number of challenges, not the least of which is wading through all of the advice offered by so-called social media experts.

Your goal is to share quality content quickly, easily, and directly with your primary audience. That shouldn’t be so difficult. And yet for the many professionals with whom I work, it is.

Linda Anger

As I watch my Twitter feed, 99% of what I see is links to local news articles, articles that are thinly disguised promotions, or quotes from “the masters.” I think we err in believing, subtly if not consciously, that “social” media is the new end-all, be-all marketing platform, which it decidedly is not.

Maybe you feel like Betty. Betty has been working with the government for 25 years. She’s good at what she does, but she’s not a social media expert. She has a personal Facebook account that she uses to keep up with friends and family. One day her boss asks her to start a Twitter account for their region.

She does. But she’s not sure whether she’s writing for regional employees or the general public. She’s never certain what information she’s supposed to share. The Tweets she reads contain abbreviations and #hashtags that aren’t familiar to her. Sometimes she feels like her Tweets are too stuffy, and other times she feels like they are too breezy for a government employee.

Or perhaps you’re like Chris. Chris registers for what looks like a great course for social media users. In the first webinar, he’s instructed to start a blog, write an ebook, and start researching keywords so he can capitalize on his SEO.

But Chris is an internal corporate communicator. His followers already know where to find him. And they’re not following so they can be redirected to a website. They’re looking for bite-size chunks of information they can grab on the go. He knows this course is all wrong, but he can’t seem to find one that will help him share content in a meaningful way.

I attended a couple of free seminars about how to use Twitter. I had
been using Twitter for a while before I attended those seminars, and
they weren’t really detailed enough. I did find a lot more detail in
your coursework than I found in those seminars.

Sound familiar? I know. I’ve been there. That’s why I’m here to share with you the TWO super powerful secrets I’ve discovered to Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook so that you will know without a doubt that you’re reaching your target audience.

As a writing expert, I quickly realized that Twitter and Facebook share many principles with other forms of written communication. These new social media platforms just need a translator if you will, someone to show us how the old rules work in a new venue.

To tweet for the sake of tweeting is absurd. Last century, mothers used to say, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Perhaps the new mom (or business manager) will say “If you can’t say something that matters, don’t say anything at all.”

When I began teaching Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook to a group of biologists for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, I reviewed my bag of tricks and found ways to translate the old rules of writing compelling copy into easy, step-by-step exercises and simple, practical guidelines that work wonders on today’s social media platforms.

Best of all, here’s what I learned: There are TWO super powerful secrets to Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook. And I’m going to share them with you.

Even though I thought I was writing interesting Tweets, they weren’t
being picked up very often and they weren’t being mentioned or
Retweeted very much. So since having gone through this process
of your course, I’ve actually changed the way that I write Tweets
now. I’ve noticed that just by using verbs in a different place even
as I’m writing a Tweet will create a little more interest.

I know what you’re thinking. This is some sort of trick. I mean, after all, I earn my living as a teacher. Why would I share my secrets with you instead of keeping them, well, secret?

But it’s true. I really am going to tell you the TWO super powerful secrets you MUST KNOW to Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook. And here’s why. Communication is key!

That’s the principle on which I built my business, Corporate Writing Pro, but it’s not just a tagline. That’s my philosophy. I believe that this world would be a better place if we were all better communicators. So I’m going to share those secrets with you, because I want you to be a better communicator too.

Here they are – the TWO secrets to writing compelling content for Twitter and Facebook.

1) Be interesting.

2) Be conversational.

That’s it.

I know – really simple, right? Except, how do you know when you’ve done that? How do you measure interestingness or conversationality? Even those words even sound made-up.

Well, as it turns out there are all kinds of ways you can measure your reach on social media platforms. Those are called returns on investment, or ROI. On Twitter, you can measure ROI by the number of @mentions, replies, and comments that you create with any given Tweet. On Facebook, you should be generating likes and shares.

Are your Tweets and Facebook status updates getting the attention you deserve?

Suzie Brown

I was using Twitter a lot to watch trends rather than writing on it or tweeting on it. I wasn’t getting retweets. There wasn’t much conversation going on. For me, the course objectives were met. I think it’s given me something to go away and try.

I can show you some really simple techniques that will help improve your numbers. And if you’re anything like the professionals with whom I work, that’s some good news, because being interesting and being conversational are not as easy as we might think.

  • First, what is interesting to one person is not interesting to another. So before we can be interesting on Twitter or Facebook, we have to conduct an audience analysis.
  • Second, being conversational means understanding the rules of the game. You can’t just walk into a room, start talking, and expect to engage people. We have to understand the mechanics of Twitter and Facebook so that we can engage our audience appropriately.

I was unsure about what hashtags were, much less how to use them.
Having answers at my fingertips was a huge help. I loved that I
could just find an answer that I was looking for – or better yet
when I found answers to questions I hadn’t even thought to ask.
The instructions are down to earth and easy to understand. It
helped me promote my writing through the use of Twitter
and Facebook.

  • Third, both Twitter and Facebook are digital media, but they’re also written media. We can’t just talk louder to be heard or use body language to make our message clear. We have to use things like action verbs, personal pronouns, and transitions to make our message compelling.
I learned all of this when I taught Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook to government biologists with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. And that is why I decided to transform the course into a downloadable product that you can access too. Because communication is key! I want you to be the best communicator you can possibly be!

I know, you don’t have time to take another course. None of us does. Time is our most precious commodity, and it’s fading fast. But let me ask you this, how much time are you spending on social media right now?

15 minutes a day?

30?

60?

And what’s your ROI (Return on Investment)? How many @mentions, replies, comments, likes, and shares are you generating for the time you’re spending?

Write Compelling Copy for Twitter and Facebook gives you a visual learning experience from the comfort of your home or office that you can enjoy in your own time and at your own pace with the flexibility to target one exercise at a time until you’ve mastered it, to skip the stuff you already know, and to tailor the course to your own level of expertise.

And the transcript means that you don’t have to take notes. You can relax, sit back, and enjoy the video, knowing that you can read it at any time.

I don’t know about you, but lengthy webinars make me itch! I can’t sit still for that long, and I feel like I should be multi-tasking. I have purposely designed these videos to be quick and easy. They are short – between 2 and 10 minutes apiece – and the companion transcripts show you where you’re supposed to pause, so you can perform an exercise in your workbook or take notes while reading an article.

I like Tweeting and finding out more about how to do it better. And certainly with this knowledge now, I feel more confident. I think this laid out some very important steps in a very clear way, and I’ll come back to these examples. I just think it’s very easy to forget that those basics are still really important. So for me it certainly has helped.
